Janet Damita Jo Jackson was born on May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana. She was the youngest of 9 children born to Katherine and Joesph Jackson. She had 5 brothers, they were Michael, Tito, Jermaine, Randy, and Marlon. She also had 2 sisters, they were Maureen(Rebbie), and Latoya. When she was just 3 years old her 5 brothers started a group called the Jackson 5 managed by father, Joesph, so she didnt see much of them. When she was 5 she would wake up at 8 o'clock on Sunday mornings and watch their cartoon.

When she was 12 she started acting. She was in 3 shows. They were Good Times, Different Strokes, and Fame. Shortly after her acting career in 1982 she produced an album called Janet Jackson. It didnt sell that well but it was a start. Her second album Dreamstreet was released in 1984. It hit the the Top 200 in Billboards at #147. During that time she was married to James DeBarge and divoriced him because of his drug addition. She knew she wasnt getting any where so she hired 2 new producers. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. She kept her manager/boyfriend Rene though. Her third album Control was released in 1986, it was a smash. In the U.S, 5 of Janet's songs on Control hit the Top 10. In the U.K 3 of Janets songs hit the top 10. She had some smashing songs like Control, Miss You Much, and When I Think Of You. Her 4th album Rhythm Nation was very popular to the people too. It hit the chart at #1. In 1990 she scooped up 8 Billboard Awards for Top R&B Album, Best Single Artist, Best Pop Album and many more. It was the most she ever gotten before. Then she announced her first World Tour for Rhythm Nation. She said she got the name Rhythm Nation 1814 because R is the 18th letter in the alphabet and N is the 14th letter in the alphabet. Also because Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spanngled Banner. Then in 1993 she starred in a movie with Rap Star TuPac Shakur, It was called Poetic Justice. Shortly after the movie she released another album called Janet which included the song Again from the movie Poetic Justice. During that time Janet was becoming more relaxed and started dancing in all of her music videos. Her 6th album was released in 1995 called Design Of A Decade, it was a CD with all of her best songs on it from 1986-1996. Some of the songs she included was What Have You Done For Me Lately?, Love Will Never Do, Nasty, Escapade, and many more. Shortly after that album was released she sang a duet with her brother Michael. The song was called Scream which one a Grammy for Best Song by a Duo. The music video to Scream is also the worlds most exspensive video costing $7,000,000. Her most recent album was released in 1997, it was called the Velvet Rope. It was dedicated to her boyfriend at the time Rene. She said the album is about what is going on in the World today like sex, crime, drugs, and AIDS. It had a rising point on the Billboards and it hit #1. She made music videos for her smashing songs, Everytime, Go Deep, Together Again, I Get Lonely, and Got Til Its Gone featuring Joni Mitchell, and Q-Tip. Janet also released her 3rd world tour which a portion of the money was going to a non profitable organization called Americas Promise. The tour ended January 30 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She aslo remixed I Get Lonely featuring Blackstreet and she also sang a song with Busta Rhymes. Soon she will also be shooting her first commercial for Pepsi.
